Why Call Me Maybe Is So Catchy: An Analysis

cellololo:

So my friend Emily is suffering in anguish over having Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen stuck in her head. Ear worms are literally the worst, and in desperation, she asked me to explain ‘what makes it so catchy’. She’s not the only one wanting to know this, a couple kids have whined at me about why it is ‘catchy’, so I thought I’d make a helpful post explaining why!

I’m a music performance major just wrapping up her first year! I have taken theory and music history, as well as a ‘Listeners Approach’ class. I’m hoping that what I’ve learned can help explaining.

(I won’t be ‘trashing’ this song or deciding it’s value. That’s so society to decide. I’m just going to analyze it!)
